Framing the walls
So, I have lost track of some of the photo's, I did sell my house, move to a friend's spare room and put a few things in storage, tossed the rest. We moved the trailer to my parent's house, where my Mom feeds us and makes tea and my Dad has all the good tools and carpentry expertise.
We built up and out from the trailer base. The supports are
comprised of three pieces of wood glued, screwed, painted and placed at 1 ft. intervals
Then came framing out the ends, middle hole for the bay window, door on the other end.

The journey begins!
Hooray! The trailer for Soul Song is complete. This will be the base for the vardo. My son, Richard, arranged to have it custom built by BG Trailers in Mount Airy, NC. We took a day trip to Mount Airy to pick it up. We ordered a bare frame 6' by 12' utility trailer.

Why the wistful wagon
It has been a dream of mine to live off the grid for many
years now. As a child I would see Romany
travelers, camped on the English country lanes and marvel at their wagons. My grandmothers were both gardeners and my
parents encouraged my sister and I to have our own gardens. I started growing my own food, learned food
storage, started working with herbs and flowers in my twenties. Over the years my interest in sustainable
living has grown as has my practice of sustainable skills in daily life. There
have been things that I have wanted to do along the way and I have been
fortunate enough to have been able to do them. My
life is at a stage now that I am able to unplug from the mainstream (to a
degree) and explore a more sustainable life off the grid. My super supportive family is on board, and
the Vardo that I will be living in was designed by my son and being built by my
son with help from the rest of us. Our
inspiration was the Vardo that George built, you can see his work at http://paleotool.com/the-vardo/ . I needed something just a little
larger.
